Housing Services – Groundskeeping and General Duties
Temporary contract / May 2026 until End of August 2026
Monday to Friday / Up to 28 hours per week / Kirkland Lake
$17.60 per hour / Vacation pay

The District of Timiskaming Social Services Administration Board supports individuals in need throughout our communities by delivering Children’s Services, Paramedic Services, Ontario Works, and Housing Services through the effective use of available resources and in the best interest of the individuals we support. We are seeking an individual interested in a short-term opportunity to perform groundskeeping and general custodial duties (exterior and interior) at our Kirkland Lake buildings over the summer months.
Reporting to the Housing Services Maintenance Supervisor (or designate) the incumbent will assist the Housing Services Team with a variety of general outdoor maintenance tasks, applying manual skills. While the duties will be primarily focused on groundskeeping, the individual may also assist staff with indoor custodial work. A regular weekly schedule will be established for performing outdoor maintenance responsibilities at multiple social housing properties managed by the DTSSAB within Kirkland Lake. Duties will vary from lone location to the next. This position is unionized.
Responsibilities
- Ensure a regular, reliable and punctual presence
- Interact pleasantly and professionally with DTSSAB staff and building tenants
- Maintain grounds and perform general yard work and groundskeeping. Grass cutting, trimming, weeding, etc. using manual tools and powered equipment (i.e.: push mower, lawn tractor, gas powered trimmer, hedge trimmers, etc.)
- Clean debris from outdoor public areas, sweep walkways, clean windows, minor painting/refreshing (i.e.: outdoor railings, etc.)
- As assigned, assist with general indoor cleanup duties (i.e.: building entrances, common areas, washrooms), empty trash bins, help dispose of garbage and recyclable items, etc.
- Other related duties
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience with groundskeeping tasks and outdoor yard maintenance, using safe working practices to operate equipment or machinery, and experience performing a wide range of custodial/janitorial duties
- Experience working in a public setting with frequent interactions with members of the public
- Ability to work independently with limited on-site supervision
- Capable of following directions, instructions, and procedures while ensuring attention to detail and accuracy
- Good communication (listening, speaking, and writing) and interpersonal abilities to interact effectively staff and supervisors, as well as deal tactfully and respectfully with tenants
- Good judgment and the ability to know when to escalate questions, complaints or concerns to the supervisor
- Adaptability, strong time management abilities, initiative and resourcefulness
- Ability to travel daily to various assigned building locations. Valid driver’s license and access to transportation required
- Capable of performing physically demanding tasks (i.e.: stand, walk, bend, lift, carry heavy supplies)
- Computer proficiency is considered an asset
- Bilingualism (French and English) is considered an asset
