Job Description and Duties
The general machinist shall possess and carry out all the machining job functions below and through
experience and knowledge provide the following:
• Maintain machining safety guidelines and regulations to ensure a risk-free work safe environment
• Capable of effectively operating to its potential the following equipment:
◦ Radial Drill
◦ Bench Drill
◦ Conventional Milling Machine
◦ Conventional Engine Lathe
◦ CNC Lathe
◦ CNC Milling Machine
◦ Band Saw
◦ 50 / 100 Ton Press
◦ Pedestal Grinder
◦ Power Hand tools such as grinders, drill
• Capable of effectively performing machine maintenance to ensure machines and tools are in good
working order to achieve precise and accurate desired results in a safe manner; repair minor damages.
• Knowledge of various materials, properties and their machining characteristics.
• Optimize feed and speed rates for productive efficiency.
• Meet production schedules and deadlines.
• Select appropriate machines for the size of job requirement and position the loading effectively and safely.
• Plan the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of a job, as required.
• Review samples, drawings or instructions to understand specifications of output.
• Excellent manual dexterity, accuracy and attention to detail.
• Take instructions, work with others cooperatively and train willingly.
• Ability to use precision measuring tools and device such as:
◦ inside and outside micrometers
◦ steel rules, measuring tape
◦ inside and outside calipers
◦ vernier calipers
◦ dial bore gauges
◦ telescopic gauges
◦ drill gauge
◦ thickness gauges
◦ center gauge
◦ protractor head
◦ radius gauges
◦ depth gauge
◦ dial indicators
◦ thread pitch gauges
• Ability to use layout tools such as:
◦ vernier height gauge
◦ surface gauge
◦ dividers
◦ scriber
◦ center punch, transfer punch, hammer
◦ combination square set and protractor
◦ machinist toolmakers square
◦ surface blocks
• Ability to read and interpret electronic or written blueprints, schematics, specifications, and manuals
• Good mathematical skills and analytical abilities
• Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs).
• Machinist must have experience with small to medium parts machining.
• Grind and sharpen drills and various cutting tools.
• Select appropriate fixtures, tooling, cutters and inserts for the materials and equipment
• Ability to move or transfer products with an overhead crane along with knowledge of rigging and the
lifting devices being used.
• While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and reach
with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision,
color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Properly and safely selects, aligns, secures and removes holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments,
accessories and materials onto machines.
• Perform repetitive tasks in a high pressure setting with tight deadlines, and able to stand for extended
periods of time.
• Expected to have a reasonable selection of personal tools, measuring, layout and mechanical.

• Minimum experience of 5 years.
